standing here
at the threshold
of your heart
I can only pause
and wonder
what you would do
if I knocked
right now

it's not my wish
to complicate this
as tempting as it is
now that I know
where the doorway is

your pale blue eyes
were a surprising trap
you never knew you laid
but this decision is made
for the both of us
right now

it's not a role
I want to repeat
safer simply to retreat
to step away
all intentions bare
so you can't turn
and see me there

and I will play the part
that isn't so complicated
and wait to knock
once more
