My Dragon

I have become
A tragic knight
in poetic armour

and it is the need in me
that destroys
what falls into my hands

each new princess
I think to rescue

caught by my inability
to balance myself
between my need and hers

time and again
I fail - I fall
in defeat
to the dragon of my own need

my best armour
my sharpest sword
useless
in the face of my own
internal failings

the princesses flee
rather than fight
their own dragons
and mine
